KNBR's Tom Tolbert Leaving Station After 27 Years
Longtime Sports Radio Host to Depart Cumulus Media
Tolbert's Final Broadcast Set for June 16th
KNBR sports radio host Tom Tolbert is leaving the station after 27 years, the station announced on Thursday. Tolbert's final broadcast will be on Friday, June 16th.
Tolbert has been a fixture on KNBR since 1995, when he joined the station as a weekend host. He quickly rose through the ranks, and in 2001, he was named the station's program director. In 2005, he became the host of the "Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks" morning show, which he co-hosted with Gary Radnich and Larry Krueger.
Tolbert is known for his quick wit, his encyclopedic knowledge of sports, and his ability to connect with listeners. He has covered some of the Bay Area's most memorable sports moments, including the Golden State Warriors' four NBA championships in the past eight years.
"I have been so fortunate to work with so many talented people at KNBR over the years," Tolbert said in a statement. "I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the Bay Area sports community for the past 27 years."
KNBR is owned by Cumulus Media, which is the second-largest radio broadcaster in the United States. Cumulus Media has been struggling financially in recent years, and it has been selling off some of its assets. In 2021, Cumulus Media sold its stake in KNBR to Red Apple Media, a company owned by the Warriors.
Tolbert's departure is the latest in a string of changes at KNBR. In recent months, the station has also lost hosts Gary Radnich, Larry Krueger, and Damon Bruce.
It is unclear what Tolbert's plans are after he leaves KNBR. He has said that he is open to continuing his career in sports media.
