KNBR Host Tom Tolbert Out Following Off-Air Comments
Longtime afternoon host abruptly let go by station
KNBR management declined to comment on the reasons for Tolbert's departure.
KNBR sports radio host Tom Tolbert has been let go by the station, the team announced Wednesday.
Tolbert, who had been with KNBR since 2014, was the host of the afternoon "Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks" show.
The station did not give a reason for Tolbert's departure, but it comes after he made controversial comments about the 49ers organization during an off-air conversation that was leaked to the media.
In the conversation, Tolbert was critical of the 49ers' front office and coaching staff, and he also made disparaging remarks about some of the team's players.
KNBR management reportedly met with Tolbert on Tuesday to discuss his comments, and the station decided to let him go following the meeting.
Tolbert is a well-known and respected sportscaster in the Bay Area, and his firing has come as a surprise to many.
It is unclear what Tolbert's next move will be, but he is expected to land another job in sports radio or television in the near future.
