Wisconsin Volleyball Dominates Penn State with Joy
Badgers Secure Another Win
The Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team continued their impressive season on Saturday, October 15th, with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Badgers, ranked No. 4 in the nation, controlled the match from start to finish, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-14. Leading the charge for Wisconsin was sophomore outside hitter Sarah Franklin, who tallied a match-high 15 kills. Junior middle blocker Dana Rettke added 13 kills for the Badgers, while senior setter Sydney Hilley dished out 36 assists.
Key to Success
One of the keys to Wisconsin's success on Saturday was their ability to serve aggressively. The Badgers recorded eight aces in the match, including three from Franklin. This aggressive serving put pressure on the Penn State passers and made it difficult for them to set up their offense.
Another key factor in Wisconsin's victory was their defense. The Badgers held Penn State to a .120 hitting percentage, the lowest of any opponent this season. Junior libero Lauren Barnes led the defensive effort with 16 digs, while senior defensive specialist Izzy Ashburn added 10 digs.
Player of the Match
Sarah Franklin was named the player of the match for her outstanding performance. Franklin led the Badgers in kills (15) and aces (3) and also added 11 digs. The sophomore outside hitter is one of the most dynamic players in the country and is a key reason for Wisconsin's success this season.
Looking Ahead
With the win over Penn State, Wisconsin improves to 17-2 on the season and remains undefeated in Big Ten play. The Badgers will return to action on Wednesday, October 19th, when they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Minnesota is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation, so this will be another big test for Wisconsin.
