Wale Helps Shine A Spotlight On DMV Heritage During “Gifted Week”
The annual celebration focuses on community, culture, and DMV heritage
Rapper Wale has announced his annual "Gifted Week" celebration, which will take place from June 16-19 in Washington, D.C. The week-long event will feature a variety of events, including concerts, panels, and community service initiatives, all aimed at celebrating the culture and heritage of the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area.
Community, culture, and DMV heritage will be the main focus
Wale, a D.C. native, founded "Gifted Week" in 2017 as a way to give back to his community and celebrate the DMV's unique culture. The event has grown each year, and this year's celebration is expected to be the biggest yet.
"Gifted Week" is a celebration of the DMV's rich culture and heritage”, Wale told The Washington Post. "It's a time for us to come together as a community and celebrate all the things that make this area so special."
The week-long celebration will kick off with a concert on June 16 at the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. The concert will feature Wale and a special guest, and tickets are on sale now.
Other events during "Gifted Week" will include a panel discussion on the DMV's hip-hop scene, a community service day, and a block party.
Wale is excited to see the impact that "Gifted Week" has on the DMV community.
"I want this week to be a time for us to come together and celebrate all that we have as a community”, Wale continued. "I want people to leave this week feeling proud to be from the DMV."
