USMNT Earns Comeback Victory Over Jamaica
Jamaica vs. USMNT
Goals by Dike, Weah Lift US in Final Friendly Before World Cup
The United States men’s national team ended its 2022 slate with a 2-1 friendly victory over Jamaica on Tuesday night in Nashville. Daryl Dike scored the equalizer in the second half, and Tim Weah tallied the game-winner in the 88th minute.
The win was the third in a row for the USMNT, which will open the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Wales on Nov. 21. Jamaica, meanwhile, has now lost four straight matches.
The match was played in front of a sellout crowd of 27,329 at Nissan Stadium. The home side had the better of the chances in the first half but could not find the back of the net.
Jamaica took the lead in the 53rd minute when Leon Bailey scored a stunning free kick from 25 yards out. The USMNT equalized in the 62nd minute when Dike headed home a cross from Shaq Moore.
Weah then won it for the United States in the 88th minute when he finished off a pass from Christian Pulisic. The goal was Weah’s first for the USMNT since September 2021.
The win was a good confidence boost for the USMNT, which has struggled at times in 2022. The team will now turn its attention to the World Cup, where it will face Wales, England, and Iran in Group B.
