United States advances to 2023 Gold Cup semifinals with win over Jamaica

The United States national soccer team defeated Jamaica 1-0 on Sunday night to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 Concacaf Nations League.

The lone goal of the match came in the 83rd minute, courtesy of a penalty kick from Ricardo Pepi.

The US advanced to the semifinals, where they will face Honduras on Thursday, June 23. The winner of that match will qualify for the 2024 Copa América.

Pochettino praises team's performance

"I am very proud of the team's performance tonight," said US coach Mauricio Pochettino. "We knew it would be a difficult match, but the players showed great character and determination.

"We still have a lot of work to do, but this is a good step forward for us," Pochettino added. "We are excited to be in the semifinals and we will be ready for Honduras."

The United States is now 3-0-1 in the Nations League and has yet to concede a goal.

Jamaica, meanwhile, is 0-3-1 in the tournament and has been eliminated from contention for the semifinals.
