Sophie Turner in Talks to Topline Amazon’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Series
Exclusive: 'Game of Thrones' Alum in Negotiations to Replace Alicia Vikander in Roar Uthaug-Directed Project.
Turner, who rose to fame for her role as Sansa Stark on the HBO fantasy series, is in early negotiations to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Amazon series.
If the deal goes through, Turner would replace Alicia Vikander, who played Lara Croft in the 2018 film reboot. Vikander is not expected to return for the series due to scheduling conflicts.
The Tomb Raider series, based on the popular video game franchise, follows the adventures of Lara Croft, a fearless archaeologist who travels the world in search of lost artifacts and ancient secrets.
The Amazon series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is also attached to write and executive produce. Roar Uthaug, who directed the 2018 film Tomb Raider, is set to direct the pilot episode.
If Turner does sign on to the project, it would be a major coup for Amazon. The actress has a large and loyal fan base, thanks to her role on Game of Thrones, and she is sure to bring a lot of excitement to the Tomb Raider series.
Production on the Tomb Raider series is expected to begin later this year. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2024.
