Sharon Horgan is using her Instagram account to raise awareness for ovarian cancer. The Irish comedian and actress was diagnosed with the disease in 2017 and has since undergone surgery and chemotherapy. She has been using her platform to share information about the disease and encourage people to get checked. In a recent post, she wrote: "Ovarian cancer is the 6th biggest cancer killer in women in the UK. It's often diagnosed late, when it's harder to treat. That's why it's so important to get checked if you have any of the symptoms."The symptoms of ovarian cancer can include bloating, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits. Horgan said that she experienced all of these symptoms, but she initially dismissed them as being caused by other things.
“I thought I was just getting old,” she said. “I thought I was just putting on weight. I thought I was just tired. But it turned out to be ovarian cancer.”
Horgan is now in remission, but she knows that ovarian cancer can come back. She is using her Instagram account to raise awareness of the disease and encourage people to get checked.
“I want people to know that ovarian cancer is not a death sentence,” she said. “It's a treatable disease, but it's important to get checked early.”
