Tigers Win 66-64 in Thrilling Finish
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 66-64 to the Memphis Tigers in a thrilling finish at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Rebels (3-1) had a chance to tie the game with 1.8 seconds remaining, but Jordan McCabe's three-point attempt bounced off the rim.
The Tigers (4-0) were led by DeAndre Williams, who scored a game-high 21 points. Lester Quinones added 17 points and nine rebounds for Memphis.
UNLV was led by Luis Rodriguez, who scored 18 points. Bryce Hamilton added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Rebels.
The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points at any point in the second half.
The Tigers took the lead for good with 1:44 remaining on a layup by Williams.
The Rebels had a chance to tie the game with 1.8 seconds remaining, but McCabe's three-point attempt bounced off the rim.
The loss is UNLV's first of the season, and it snapped a three-game winning streak.
The Rebels will return to action on Tuesday night when they host the Cal State Northridge Matadors at the Thomas & Mack Center.
