The Washington Commanders and rapper Wale hosted a youth football camp in Prince George's County, Maryland, on Saturday.
The camp was open to children ages 6 to 14 and featured instruction from Commanders coaches and players, including quarterback Tayler Heinicke and wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
Wale, a Maryland native and Commanders fan, also spoke to the campers about the importance of hard work and dedication.
"It's important for these kids to see that anything is possible if you set your mind to it," Wale said. "I'm just glad I can be a part of that."
The camp was a success, with over 200 children participating.
"We're just trying to give these kids a chance to learn the game of football and have some fun," Heinicke said. "It's great to see so many kids out here today."
The Commanders are committed to giving back to the community, and the youth football camp is just one example of that commitment.
"We're proud to be able to host this camp and give these kids a chance to learn from some of the best in the game," said Commanders president Jason Wright.
The Commanders are hoping that the camp will inspire the next generation of football stars.
"Who knows, maybe one of these kids will be the next Terry McLaurin or Tayler Heinicke," Wright said.
For now, the campers are just happy to be learning from their favorite players.
"It's so cool to be here with these guys," said 10-year-old camper Michael Jones. "I'm learning so much."
The Commanders and Wale are hoping that the camp will have a lasting impact on the campers.
"We want these kids to leave here with a love of the game and a desire to achieve their dreams," Wale said.
The youth football camp is just one example of the Commanders' commitment to giving back to the community. The team also supports a number of other programs, including the Commanders Charitable Foundation, which provides grants to organizations that support youth development, education, and health and wellness.
