Neymar ruled out of Brazil's upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to injury
The Paris Saint-Germain star will miss Brazil's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay due to a thigh injury.
Brazil coach Tite confirmed the news in a press conference on Thursday, saying that Neymar had suffered a muscle injury in training and would be out for two to three weeks.
The injury is a blow to Brazil's hopes of securing automatic qualification for the World Cup in Qatar next year. Brazil is currently top of the CONMEBOL standings, but they have only played seven of their 18 qualification matches.
With Neymar out, Tite will have to find a replacement for the team's talisman. Philippe Coutinho, who has been in good form for Barcelona this season, is likely to be the favorite to start in Neymar's place.
Brazil will face Venezuela in Caracas on October 7th before hosting Uruguay in Manaus on October 14th. The Selecao will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in World Cup qualifying to 10 matches.
Neymar's injury is a major setback for Brazil, but Tite will be hoping that the team can cope without their star man and secure qualification for the World Cup.
