KNBR Fires Tom Tolbert After Inappropriate Comments

Tom Tolbert, a longtime host on KNBR, has been fired after making inappropriate comments on the air.

Tolbert was fired on Wednesday, April 12, after making a series of racially insensitive comments during a broadcast of the Golden State Warriors game. The comments, which were widely condemned, led to calls for Tolbert's firing from both listeners and advertisers.

Cumulus Media, the parent company of KNBR, released a statement on Wednesday saying that it had "terminated" Tolbert's contract.

“Cumulus Media is committed to creating a work environment and programming that is free of bias and discrimination,” the statement said. “We take these matters very seriously, and we will not tolerate any behavior that violates our values.”

Tolbert has not yet commented on his firing.

The firing of Tom Tolbert is the latest in a series of high-profile departures from KNBR.

In recent months, the station has also fired hosts Gary Radnich and Larry Krueger. The departures have led to speculation about the future of KNBR, which has been a dominant force in Bay Area sports radio for decades.

It is unclear what the future holds for KNBR. However, the firing of Tom Tolbert is a clear sign that the station is taking steps to address its recent problems.
