Iniesta buys 90% of Danish 3rd division side
The former Barcelona midfielder has acquired 90% of Danish third-tier club FC Helsingør.
The news was confirmed by the club on Wednesday, with Iniesta saying he was "excited" to be part of the project.
FC Helsingør is currently 10th in the Danish 2nd Division, the third tier of the Danish football league system.
Iniesta, 38, left Barcelona in 2018 after 22 years at the club. He joined Japanese side Vissel Kobe, where he played for three seasons before retiring in 2021.
The Spaniard is one of the most decorated midfielders of all time, having won nine La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, and the World Cup with Spain in 2010.
Iniesta's purchase of FC Helsingør is the latest in a series of high-profile investments by former footballers in lower-league clubs.
David Beckham co-owns Inter Miami CF in the MLS, while Thierry Henry is a minority owner of Como 1907 in the Italian Serie B.
Iniesta's investment in FC Helsingør is a sign of the growing interest in Danish football from foreign investors.
The Danish Superliga has been ranked as the 10th best league in Europe by UEFA, and several Danish clubs have competed in the Champions League and Europa League in recent years.
Iniesta's purchase of FC Helsingør is a major coup for the club and could help to raise the profile of Danish football even further.
