'Harry Potter' Stars James and Oliver Phelps Talk Their Favorite Memory Working With Maggie Smith (Exclusive)
The twins recall Smith's 'kindness' during a 'chaotic' scene in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'
James and Oliver Phelps, who portrayed Fred and George Weasley in the 'Harry Potter' films, praised Dame Maggie Smith for her professionalism while discussing their favorite memory of working with her. She played Professor McGonagall in the beloved franchise.
"I think our favorite memory of working with Maggie Smith was during the Battle of Hogwarts scene in 'Deathly Hallows'," James told ET in an exclusive interview. "It was such a chaotic scene, with so many things going on, but Maggie was always so calm and collected."
Smith's Kindness on Set
"She was also incredibly kind and supportive to us," Oliver added. "We were both quite young when we started filming the 'Harry Potter' movies, and Maggie was always there to give us advice and encouragement."
One particular moment that stood out for the twins was when Smith helped them film a scene where their characters were supposed to be levitating.
"We were having a lot of trouble getting the scene right," James recalled, "but Maggie was so patient with us. She kept giving us tips and encouragement, and eventually, we were able to nail it."
Smith's Work Ethic
Oliver praised Smith's work ethic, noting that she was always prepared and always knew her lines. "She was a true professional," he said. "We learned a lot from her about what it takes to be a successful actor."
The twins also shared their admiration for Smith's sense of humor. "She's actually really funny," James said. "She always had us laughing on set."
"I think one of the things that makes Maggie so special is that she's not afraid to be herself," Oliver added. "She's always honest and genuine, and that's something we really appreciate about her."
James and Oliver Phelps are currently starring in a new play called 'The Two Gentlemen of Verona' at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
