Germán Pezzella cuts short Argentina tour injured

Centre-back departs early

The Argentinian international centre-back had to leave the Argentina training camp early due to a calf injury. He picked up a knock in training and will now have to return to his club Real Betis.

Pezzella was in good form

Pezzella had been in good form for his country and had started the 1-0 friendly win over Morocco last week. He was also due to play in the match against Mexico on Tuesday.

Argentina still have options

Argentina still have plenty of options at centre-back, with Manchester United’s Lisandro Martínez and Sevilla’s Marcos Acuña both in the squad. However, Pezzella’s absence is a blow as he is a key player for Lionel Scaloni’s side.

Argentina play next

Argentina’s next match is against Mexico on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas. They will then face Jamaica in New Jersey on Friday.
