Lady Lions Claw Back From Early Deficit
Trailing 17-6 midway through the first quarter, the Lady Lions used a 13-2 run to close the gap to 19-18.
Duquesne took a 24-18 lead into the second quarter, but Penn State quickly tied the game at 24-24 and took its first lead of the game at 26-24 on a layup by Makenna Marisa.
The Lady Lions led 46-41 at halftime.
PSU Extends Lead in Third Quarter
Penn State extended its lead to 60-49 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Lions shot 50% from the field in the third quarter, including 40% from three-point range.
Marisa led the way with eight points in the third quarter.
Lady Lions Hold On For Victory
Duquesne cut the lead to 70-65 with 6:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Lions answered with a 7-0 run to push the lead back to 77-65.
The Dukes never got the lead back to single digits and Penn State held on for the 92-83 victory.
Five in Double Figures for Lady Lions
Marisa led the Lady Lions with 22 points, followed by Leilani Kapinus with 16, Ali Brigham with 15, Maggie Lucas with 13, and Amari Carter with 11.
It was the first time this season that Penn State had five players in double figures.
Kapinus Reaches 1,000-Point Milestone
Kapinus reached the 1,000-point milestone in the third quarter with a layup.
She is the 36th player in Penn State history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
