Eagles star Jalen Hurts raises $100,000 for air conditioning in Philadelphia schools
Funding effort is part of the QB's 'Pass the Torch' mentoring program
The money will be used to install AC units in 10 Philadelphia public schools.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has raised more than $100,000 to install air conditioning in 10 Philadelphia public schools.
Hurts announced the fundraising effort in June as part of his "Pass the Torch" mentoring program. The goal was to raise $100,000 by the end of the summer.
Hurts surpassed his goal in less than two months, thanks to donations from fans, businesses, and other organizations.
The money will be used to install AC units in 10 Philadelphia public schools that currently do not have them.
The schools that will receive AC units are:
- Bartram High School
- George Washington High School
- Kensington High School for Creative and Performing Arts
- Martin Luther King High School
- Overbrook High School
- Roxborough High School
- Strawberry Mansion High School
- Vaux High School
- West Philadelphia High School
- Westtown School
The installation of AC units in these schools will provide a more comfortable learning environment for students and teachers.
Hurts said he was inspired to start the fundraising effort after visiting a Philadelphia public school that did not have AC.
"I saw firsthand how the heat can make it difficult for students to learn and for teachers to teach," Hurts said.
"I'm grateful to everyone who donated to this effort. Together, we're making a difference in the lives of Philadelphia students."
The "Pass the Torch" mentoring program was launched by Hurts in 2021. The program provides mentorship and support to students from underrepresented communities.
In addition to the fundraising effort, Hurts has also donated his time to the program, visiting schools and talking to students about the importance of education and perseverance.
Hurts is a role model for many young people, and his commitment to giving back to the community is inspiring.
