Daniil Medvedev Destroys Racquet After 'Calamitous' Serve Meltdown at ATP Finals

Russian Star Suffers Humiliating Defeat

Daniil Medvedev, the world number four, suffered a humiliating defeat at the ATP Finals on Friday, losing 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-4 to Hubert Hurkacz of Poland. The match was marred by a calamitous serving performance from Medvedev, who hit 10 double faults, including four in a row during a crucial service game in the second set.

'Calamitous' Serve Meltdown

Medvedev's serve has long been considered one of his greatest weapons, but it completely deserted him on Friday. He made just 53% of his first serves, and when he did get them in, Hurkacz was able to attack them with ease. The Russian's second serve was even worse, with Hurkacz winning 77% of the points on Medvedev's second serve.

The low point of Medvedev's serving performance came in the eighth game of the second set. With the set tied at 4-4, Medvedev hit four consecutive double faults to give Hurkacz a break of serve. The Pole then served out the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Medvedev Destroys Racquet in Frustration

After the match, Medvedev was clearly frustrated with his performance. He refused to speak to the media and instead went into the locker room and destroyed his racquet. It was a rare display of anger from the usually composed Russian.

Medvedev's defeat is a major blow to his hopes of winning the ATP Finals. He is now 0-2 in the tournament and will need to win his remaining two matches to have any chance of reaching the semifinals.
