Sinner Wins Tight Match Against De Minaur
Jannik Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-2 in the ATP Finals on Friday. Sinner, the ninth seed, won the first set after breaking de Minaur's serve in the eighth game. The Italian then broke de Minaur's serve twice in the second set to win the match in one hour and 28 minutes. "I'm really happy with the way I played today," said Sinner. "I served well and I was able to control the points from the baseline."De Minaur, the 20th seed, reached the semifinals of the ATP Finals last year. He was hoping to become the first Australian to win the title since Lleyton Hewitt in 2001. However, Sinner was too strong on the day. The Italian hit 20 winners and made just 14 unforced errors. De Minaur hit just 12 winners and made 22 unforced errors.
Fritz Upsets Medvedev in Straight Sets
Taylor Fritz upset Daniil Medvedev 7-6(4), 6-3 in the ATP Finals on Friday. Fritz, the 11th seed, won the first set in a tiebreaker after saving two set points. The American then broke Medvedev's serve twice in the second set to win the match in one hour and 43 minutes. "I'm really happy with the way I played today," said Fritz. "I served well and I was able to put pressure on Medvedev's serve."
Medvedev, the second seed, was hoping to win his second ATP Finals title in a row. However, Fritz was too good on the day. The American hit 23 winners and made just 15 unforced errors. Medvedev hit just 18 winners and made 24 unforced errors.
Fritz's win means that there will be two Americans in the semifinals of the ATP Finals for the first time since 2009. Fritz will face Rafael Nadal in one semifinal, while Sinner will face Casper Ruud in the other semifinal.
